TAKOMA PARK, Md. - After a scoreless first half on Thurs. night, Goldey-Beacom and Washington Adventist University (formerly Columbia Union) accounted for four second-half goals, but with the visiting Lightning on the losing end of a 3-1 verdict.
The two schools met just four days ago at the West Chester Tournament with GBC winning that meeting, 8-3 at a neutral site. But Washington Adventist (2-1), fresh off an overtime win against Chestnut Hill College was ready for GBC this time around.
The Lightning (1-2) outshot WAU 14-8 in the first half (26-21 in the game), but had nothing to show for it as the game was scoreless at the intermission.
It was not until the 76th minute before WAU's Gary Saint-Fleur put in a shot after some pretty passing by Kouame Kreme and Se-Eun Park. Park and Saint-Fleur would hook up again not four minutes later to give WAU a 2-0 advantage.
There was no quit in the Lightning, however, as senior defender David Nimroozi scored his first goal of the season with just minutes remaining.
But any comeback attempt was thwarted when Kreme scored off Park's third assist of the game to put WAU back ahead by two goals.
Junior goalkeeper Andrew Cairns played the full 90 minutes in goal and allowed three goals while making five saves.
The Lightning go on the road again for their next game as they take on Lincoln University, Wed., Sept. 9 at Lincoln Soccer Field.
