NORTH EAST, Md. – The host Goldey-Beacom College golf team recorded a team score of 622 on Tues. to place sixth out of 10 teams at its own tournament, the GBC Fall Invitational at the Chesapeake Bay Golf Club at Rising Sun.
Wilmington captured the team title with a score of 588, 23 shots ahead of second-place Adelphi at 611. UMass Lowell was third at 613, while Dowling at 615 and Wesley rounded out the top-five at 621 – one stroke ahead of the Lightning.
Junior John Marstellar was GBC's top-finisher, tying for 10th place with five other golfers in the field at 152. He improved nine strokes from the Lightning's last tournament.
Freshman Michael Coppa, Jr. improved by 10 strokes on Tues., as he shot a 153 and tied with two other golfers for 16th place overall.
Freshman Devon Ripley finished third for Goldey-Beacom with a score of 157. He tied for 23rd in the tournament overall field. Junior Wes Hood and senior Matt Quigley both finished right behind Ripley at 158 and they both tied for 26th place.
The Lightning return to action this weekend as they compete in the inaugural Northeast Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, hosted by Post University in Waterbury, Conn.
