Wilmington, DE – Lightning split final home double header with Philadelphia University

The Lightning softball team continued their long weekend with a CACC double header against the Philadelphia University Rams.  The Lightning worked hard in the sun to keep the Rams at bay and not letting them score.  The Rams also worked as the Lightning also struggled to score.  The Lightning found a shot in the bottom of the sixth with Shannon O'Hara getting on by a fielder's choice.  With Danielle Hufford coming in to pinch run then stealing second base the Lightning had a runner in scoring position with two outs.  Kim Narkiewicz hit a single to left field and Danielle Hufford just beat out the throw home to score the only run for the Lightning.  The Lightning were able to hold off the Rams in the top of the seventh and the Lightning took game one 1-0.

The Lightning were led by Kim Narkiewicz who went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI, Ashley Paige who went 2 for 3 (two singles), and Cailin Cavanaugh who went 1 for 2.  Lauren Witzke led defensively with 7 putouts for the Lightning.  Shannon O'Hara picked up her 6th win of the season pitching a complete shut out game while striking out 6 batters.

Game two saw a different story with the Rams going up in the first inning 7-0.  The Lightning unfortunately struggled with their bats and were unable to get anyone into scoring position.  The Lightning were however able to hold off the Rams offensive attacks but the Rams took game two 7-0.

Lauren Witzke led the Lightning going 2 for 3 (2 singles).  Shannon O'Hara led defensively with 8 putouts.

The Lightning will head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to finish out their season against Holy Family University on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 3:00pm.
