Wilmington, DE – Lightning plays close games with Dominican

The Lightning softball team faced off in a CACC double header against the Dominican College Chargers last Saturday.  The Lightning quickly closed out the first inning going one, two, three.  Though the defense was on, the Lightning's bats were not.  The Lightning struggled to find hits; only getting three (Lauren Witzke, Ashley Paige, and Danielle Rice) off of the Charger pitcher. The Chargers found a way to get five hits and were able to score in two separate occasions and the Chargers took game one 2-0.

The Lightning were led by Lauren Witzke who went 1 for 2 (grounded out, walked, singled).  Shannon O'Hara led defensively for the Lightning with 9 putouts while Ashley Paige has 5 putouts and 5 assists.

Game two saw the Lightning bats come alive.  Even though the Chargers went up 2-0 by the middle of the third inning the Lightning were ready to strike back.  The Lightning were able to cut the Chargers lead in half as Jordan Waterloo crossed the plate.  Ashley Paige picked up an RBI walk to score Waterloo.  The Lightning then added three more runs to take a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Waterloo singled up the middle to score Shannon Graves, then Cailin Cavanaugh singled up the middle to Waterloo and Lauren Witzke.  The Chargers came roaring back into the game in the top of the sixth scoring five runs.  The Lightning tried to answer back but the damage was done and the Chargers took game two 7-4.

The Lightning were led by Jordan Waterloo who went 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.  Cailin Cavanaugh when 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's while Lauren Witzke and Ashley Paige also went 1 for 3.  Shannon O'Hara once again led the Lightning defensively with 8 putouts, while Cavanaugh had 5 putouts for the game.
