NEW CASTLE, Del. – Wilmington University scored four goals in just over 12 minutes and went on to defeat the Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team, 5-1 on Tues. afternoon at Kirkwood Soccer Complex.

GBC, which has now lost three straight, falls to 4-7 on the season and 2-4 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Wilmington, which entered the game ranked No. 24 in the NSCAA national poll and No. 4 in the East Region, won its seventh straight game and improved to 11-2 (6-0 CACC).

Senior Angel Rodriguez scored the Lightning's lone goal of the day off an assist from goalkeeper Ignacio Farias. The goal was Rodriguez's ninth, and the assist was Farias' third.

The Wildcats found the back of the net just over a minute into the game as Chris Simm buried a rebound off a shot from Nickalus McDonald after a diving stop by Farias.

Almost a minute later, WU made it 2-0 as Fatoma Turray took a ball dropped back from Simm and blasted a shot from just outside the 18. Turray struck again at the 6:57 mark, this time finishing a through pass from Sargbah Tarpeh. Then Tarpeh made it 4-0 during the 12th minute as he connected on a through ball from McDonald.

GBC did not quit however, as Rordriguez took a punt from Farias and scored on a breakaway. The 4-1 score would hold until halftime, but the 'Cats added one more goal in the second half when McDonald finished a pass from Tarpeh to put the hosts ahead 5-1.

Wilmington's Ethan Kavanagh recorded three saves in the win. Ignacio Farias (five saves, four goals allowed) and Andrew Cairns (six saves, one goal allowed) split time in goal for Goldey-Beacom. The Wildcats out-shot the Lightning by a convincing 25-8 margin, but GBC held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lightning are back in action on Sat. as they host CACC opponent, Post University at 3 p.m.
