PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team took a 1-0 lead into the intermission, but surrendered three unanswered second-half goals and fell to visiting Bloomsburg University, 3-1 on a cold and windy Wed. afternoon at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field.

The Lightning (4-9) have now lost five straight as Bloomsburg, of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, improved to 7-2-2.

Junior Andrew Cairns started in the GBC net today and made two saves to preserve a first-half shutout. Freshman Ignacio Farias came in for the second stanza and made two stops while allowing three goals.

The Huskies outshot the Lightning 19-13, including a 10-5 advantage in the second half.

Freshman Matt Bik opened the scoring for the day just a little over seven minutes into the action to give GBC an early 1-0 lead. Bik finished a through ball from senior Angel Rodriguez to score his first goal of the season. The assist was Rodriguez's team-leading fifth of the year.

Neither team could manage much offense in the first half, as the Lightning took that 1-0 lead into the break.

Nearly nine minutes into the second half, BU's Tyler Phillips ended the scoring lull with a goal off a great flick by Bryce Shaffer to tie things up at one apiece.

Exactly one minute later, the Huskies had the go-ahead goal as Marcus Valleriano put in a rebound after a Lightning defender tried to head it out of the box.

Phillips would strike again in the 62nd minute to give BU an insurance goal, but the Huskies would not need it as they went on to a 3-1 victory.

GBC will host Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Bloomfield on Sat. in the second game of a Lightning double-header with the women's soccer team at approximately 3 p.m. on Sat. afternoon.
