Russell and Draper pick up no-hitters in Lincoln double header

Wilmington, DE – Russell records first no hitter and Draper picks up her first win and no hitter against Lincoln University


The Lightning softball team took on the Lincoln University Lions today in a non-conference matchup.  Kendra Russell took the mound for the Lightning in her third appearance of the season.  Russell took down batter after batter she recorded herself 14 strikeouts out of the 16 batters that she faced and recorded her first no hitter of the season.  Russell allowed only one batter to reach first base.  Not only did Russell record a no hitter she also got three hits, 4 runs scored and 1 RBI.  Russell's partner from behind the plate, catcher Megan Harper got herself 14 put outs for the game.  Harper recorded four hits, three runs scored and two RBI's.  Brittany Knotts record herself three hits, two runs scored and five RBI's for the first game.

Heather Draper took the mound for the Lightning in the second game for the Lightning.  Draper recorded 10 strike outs in the second game for the Lightning.  Jill Murphy recorded three RBI's and three put outs.  Danielle Hufford had two runs scored and two RBI's. 

The Lightning defeated the Lions of Lincoln University 17-0 in game 1 and 11-0 in game 2.  The next match up for the Lightning is on Wednesday, March 24 against the Chestnut Hill College Griffins.
