Softball Places Five on the All-CACC Squads

4/29/2025 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's impressive season saw senior pitcher Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, MD), senior utility player Ariana Mirenda (Reading, PA) and senior designated player Wynter Radcliffe (Glen Burnie, MD) each named first team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with senior pitcher Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) and senior first baseman Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) each tabbed second team all-league.

Burch this season arrived in Pike Creek and provided immediate electricity, showing a dominance over opposing batters that gave the Lightning a decided edge.  Six times this season she recorded at least eight strikeouts, included a season-best 16 on March 10 against Gannon and 10 on April 10 vs. Chestnut Hill.

In reaching 500 strikeouts for her career, Burch this year has 145 strikeouts that puts her second on the school's single-season list, 12th on the career list and second this season in the CACC.  Her 17 victories are one off the GBC single-season mark, ninth on the career list and second this year in the league.

At Mary Washington, Burch three times was picked first team All-Coast-to-Coast Conference and second team last spring.  With Goldey-Beacom's volleyball squad last fall at middle blocker, Burch was tabbed first team all-league in helping a zero-win squad from 2023 notch 15 victories.

Mirenda also was a senior transfer, giving GBC another weapon on offense and providing great play both as an infielder and an outfielder.  She led the squad this season with 17 multi-hit contests and has a hit in 15 of her last 19 contests.

She is tied for second in the league with seven triples (tied for fourth on the team's single-season list), 11th with 51 hits, 14th with 26 RBI and 20th with a .347 batting average.

Mirenda in 2021 was picked second team All-Atlantic East Conference with Wesley, the 2022 AEC Player of the Year at Cabrini and first team All-AEC with Cabrini the next two seasons.

Radcliffe was a key option in the batters box and in the circle.  At the plate, she paced the Lightning with six three-hit games and had an RBI in six consecutive contests late in the campaign.  In the circle, she struck out six over five innings March 1 vs. Saint Thomas Aquinas.

She is seventh in the league with a .408 batting average, tied for 21st with 40 hits and tied for 24th with 21 RBI.

McLane once again was sensational in the circle, coming up clutch in big moments and providing near flawless play.  In addition to her 13-1 record, she struck out 17 in tossing a one-hit shutout March 22 at Bloomfield and had 10 in allowing just one run April 9 at Jefferson.

She is first in team history with 35 wins, first with 282 strikeouts, first with six saves and third with 356 2/3 innings pitched.  McLane is tied for third in the league with 13 wins, eighth with 84 strikeouts and 13th with 94 1/3 innings pitched.

Bohmann in her two seasons has made herself one the program's top clutch hitters and was picked second team all-league each year.  One of the most powerful hitters the team has seen in recent memory, three times this season she had three hits in a game and she has a hit in seven of her last eight contests.

She is third in the CACC with 16 doubles, fourth with 38 RBI, ninth with 55 hits and 11th with a .379 batting average.  Bohmann is sixth in team history with 92 RBI and 26th with 113 hits.

Goldey-Beacom (35-12, 16-6 CACC) is headed to championship weekend of the CACC Tournament as the number three seed, its highest since it was second in 2001, and just two victories off the school record set in 1998.  GBC opened the tournament by upending sixth-seeded Georgian Court, marking the second straight year it hosted a conference tournament game.

Goldey-Beacom on Thursday will face second-seeded Wilmington at 1:30 pm in Bridgeport, CT.  Top-seeded Bridgeport plays No. 4 seed Jefferson at 11:00 am with the champion of the double-elimination weekend headed to the NCAA Tournament.
