Track and Field has Strong Showing at Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet

Goldey-Beacom's track and field teams traveled to Salisbury, MD to compete in the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet and had a strong showing from both squads, with multiple first place finishes.

On the men's side in the 100-meter dash, freshman Zay McAllister (Bordentown, N.J.) saw a fifth place finish with a time of 11.31 seconds and sophomore Marquise Carey (Wilmington, DE) placed 22nd in 13.48 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Jalen Wright (Wilmington, DE) grabbed third place in 22.88 seconds, freshman Ty'Shawn Ewings (Harrisburg, PA) placed sixth in 23.45 seconds, junior Kedar Reid (Bear, DE) finished 12th in 24.18, McAllister placed 18th with 24.79, and sophomore Zach Phy (Lancaster, PA) came in 22nd with 25.75 seconds.

In the 400m, Wright notched a first place finish with a time of 50.82 seconds, sophomore Chris Robinson (Philadelphia, PA) grabbed second in 51.65, freshman Lathan Love-Brown (Wilmington, DE) placed 4th with 53.15 seconds, Reid finished seventh in 53.91 seconds, senior Hezakiah Ali-Bentley (Dover, DE) got 11th with 56.20 seconds and freshman Matthew Haight finished in 14th with 59.06. The 400-meter hurdles saw freshman David Yunga (Philadelphia, PA) take a third place finish in 59.03 seconds. Sophomore John Ferry (Rising Sun, Md.) placed seventh in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:10.12.

In the field events, junior Sebastien Lacroix (Hamilton, N.J.) placed fourth in hammer throw with 40.36m, fifth in discus throw with 34.87m, and fifth in shot put with 12.28m. Ewings placed first overall in high jump with a height of 1.85m and in long jump with a jump of 6.35m. Freshman Nijair Williams (Philadelphia, PA) placed ninth in long jump with 5.11m.

On the women's side in the 100-meter dash, freshman Ryley Dixon (Pilesgrove, N.J.) placed first with a time of 12.38 seconds and senior Ellonah Lewis (North East, M.D.) finished 12th in 16.14 seconds. Freshman Analia Franks (West Berlin, N.J.) placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.43 seconds. Dixon also grabbed a first place finish in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 26.30 seconds.

In the 400m, freshman Liv Drewling (Düsseldorf, Germany) finished in first with a time of 1:00.11 and fellow freshman Aiyanna Adams (Pittsburgh, PA) placed third in 1:05.16. The 800-meter run saw senior Izzy Popoff (Cicero, N.Y.) take seventh place with 2:43.91, senior Ny'jashia Smith (Newark, DE) finish 11th in 2:48.02, and senior Kaylah Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finish 18th in 3:04.42. Senior Madelynn Cool (Smyrna, DE) finished ninth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 24:06.51.

The 4x400 meter relay saw a first place finish in a time of 4:29.10, and was made up of Drewling, Smith, Adams and Hill.

In the field events, junior Jourdyn Rumph (Ardmore, PA) took first in all three of her events. In discus she threw 35.08m, in hammer throw she had a distance of 35.71m, and shot put she threw 11.34m. Also for discus throw, freshman Dominique Lewis (Salem, N.J.) placed fifth with a distance of 26.09m and junior Madison McGowan (Bristow, VA) finished 23.36m. Lewis and McGowan also placed fifth and tenth in hammer throw, with distances of 27.99m and 23.83m. Junior Maya White Eagle (Baraboo, Wisc.) placed ninth with a throw of 24.81m.

In high jump, Drewling placed first with a jump of 1.55m and senior Savannah Boyce (Somerdale, N.J.) placed second with 1.45m. Javelin throw saw senior Karla Chardon (Penns Grove, N.J.) grab first with a throw of 38.88m and White Eagle finish fifth with 21.83m. In shot put, Lewis notched a second place finish with a throw of 10.43m, McGowen placed fifth with 9.32m and White Eagle got seventh with 8.85m.

Both track and field teams are back in action on Saturday, where they travel to West Chester, PA to compete in the Purple & Gold Invitational.
