Women’s Track and Field Takes Third at Purple & Gold Invitational

Goldey-Beacom track and field teams competed at the Purple And Gold Invitational in West Chester, PA and had strong showings, with the men taking fifth place and the women placing third.

On the men's side, junior Jalen Wright (Wilmington, DE) placed third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.95 seconds and first overall in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.92 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, junior Bostwick Patten (Middletown, DE) placed ninth with a time of 23.01 seconds and senior Kedar Reid (Bear, DE) finished 17th with 23.42 seconds. Patten claimed first place in the 400 meter with a time of 50.70 seconds and Reid placed 16th with 52.98 seconds. Also in the 400 meter hurdles, sophomore David Yunga (Philadelphia, PA) placed second with a time of 59.97 seconds and freshman Quran McCoy (Mays Landong, NJ) finished sixth with 1:01.80. The 800 meter saw freshman Cardin Benjamin (Lewes, DE) place eighth with 2:04.16 and sophomore Matt Haight (Bear, DE) finished with a time of 2:17.11.

In the 10,000 meter run, the Lightning claimed first and second with freshman Eerik Nou Wihlborg (Helsingborg, Sweden) taking first with a time of 32:34.67 and junior John Ferry (Rising Sun, MD) placing second with a time of 33:56.10. In the field events, freshman Tony Huynh (Silver Spring, MD) placed tenth in hammer throw with a throw of 23.42m and 27th in discus with a throw of 30.63m. In high jump, senior Jayvon Laguerre (Milford, DE) placed third with a jump of 1.85m and in long jump, Patten finished ninth with a jump of 5.65m

On the women's side, sophomore Ryley Dixon (Pilesgrove, NJ) saw multiple first place finishes in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.27 seconds and in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.10 seconds. In the 100-meter dash, junior Tania Alfaro (San Jose, Costa Rica) placed second with a time of 12.51 seconds, sophomore Narlia Albert (Vieux Fort, St. Lucia) finished 18th with 13.52 seconds, and sophomore Lara Zinsou-Bodé (Reinbek, Germany) had a time of 14.08 seconds. Also in the 200-meter, Alfaro took third with a time of 25.99 seconds, freshman Ana Thaler (Ljubljana, Slovenia) placed 10th with 27.39 seconds, and senior Kaylah Hill (Brooklyn, NY) had a time of 31.48 seconds.

In the 800-meter, sophomore Ella Badra (Caracas, Venezuela) placed ninth with a time of 2:31.53 and fellow sophomore Aiyana Adams (Pittsburgh, PA) finished 17th with 2:40.88. Sophomore Tess Pearce (Manchester, England) placed first in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 42:01.65. In the field events, senior Jourdyn Rumph (Ardmore, PA) placed first in hammer throw with a throw of 41.45m and first in shot put with a throw of  11.63m, while claiming second in discus with a throw of 37.99m. Thaler placed third in discus with a throw of 37.68m and Zinsou-Bodé placed eighth in long jump with a jump of 4.51m.

Both track and field teams return to action on March 27-28, when they compete at the Danny Curran Invitational in Chester, PA.
