Goldey-Beacom Gets Three Picked For CACC Weekly Honors

3/18/2024 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom received three honors from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE) tabbed Softball's Player of the Week, sophomore Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) picked to the sport's Weekly Honor Roll and junior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) named Baseball's Player of the Week.

O'Shields struck out 17 on Friday against Saint Rose as part of her week in which she had 33 strikeouts over 23 innings in notching three wins.  O'Shields only gave up three runs – two earned – and one walk in that unbelievable stretch.

It has been a remarkable start for O'Shields, who has notched at least eight strikeouts on six occasions and is on a six-game winning streak.  She is 17th in the country with 99 strikeouts, 34th with a 5.82:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, first in the conference in strikeouts, first with six wins and first with three shutouts.

Her 99 strikeouts already are the fourth-best single-season total in team history and she is on the verge of becoming the 16th in program history to reach 100 career.  Sophomore Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) last season set the single-season mark with 123 strikeouts.

Simpson batted .529 (9-for-17) on the week with five RBI.  She had three hits and four RBI on Wednesday in game one against Lock Haven before rapping two hits in Friday's second game vs. Saint Rose.

Providing solid play in many facets, Simpson is eighth in the league with 21 hits, 18th with a .350 batting average and fourth with a .466 on-base percentage.

The Lightning (9-17) have won eight of their last 11 contests.

Kolmansberger batted .429 (9-for-21) on the week with two doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI.  He had a hit in all six games, including three on Sunday against D'Youville in which he cracked a three-run homer.  Kolmansberger belted a grand slam Friday vs. D'Youville in addition to recording two hits in game one Wednesday at Staten Island.

Named this year to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-East Region Team, the 2022 second team All-CACC pick this season again has been solid with his tremendous defense at shortstop and red-hot bat.  He is fifth in team history with 113 career hits, first with eight triples, tied for third with 31 doubles and seventh with 28 stolen bases.

Goldey-Beacom (14-8) is ranked second in the East Region and earlier this season was nationally ranked as high as 22nd.
