Goldey-Beacom Sees Four Gain CACC Weekly Honors

3/11/2024 12:00:00 AM

More accolades from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference were feted upon Goldey-Beacom with senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE) named Softball's Pitcher of the Week, McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) tabbed the sport's Rookie of the Week with sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) and junior Ryan Pozo (Fords, NJ) each named to Baseball's Weekly Honor Roll.

O'Shields went 3-1 on the week, striking out 31 and walking seven with just eight earned runs allowed over 29 innings.  She had nine strikeouts Friday against Ashland after getting eight Monday vs. Southwest Minnesota State and Tuesday against Seton Hill.

It has been a remarkable start for O'Shields, who has been a tremendous addition after transferring from West Virginia Wesleyan College.  She has at least six strikeouts in eight of her 11 appearances, including 10 on March 2 vs. Upper Iowa, and won her last three starts.

Frank batted .419 (13-for-31) on the week with two doubles, extending her team-season-high hitting streak to 11 games.  A solid leadoff hitter who brings consistency to the lineup, Frank had two doubles and three hits Friday against Ashland in addition to notching two hits vs. Bemidji State, Seton Hill and Queens (NY).

A tremendous addition at shortstop, Frank is batting .429 (18-for-42) during her hitting streak and she also leads the team with nine multi-hit contests.

Goldey-Beacom ended its 12-game Florida trip with victories in four of its last five contests, yielding six runs over its last four games.

Charles batted .583 (7-for-12) with two doubles, a home run and two RBI over three games against regionally ranked Queens (NY).  He had a career-high four hits in the first game of Friday's doubleheader after getting two hits with a home run in Thursday's second contest.

Seeing more time this season primarily in right field, Charles has a hit in eight of his 13 games.

Pozo struck out five over 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and a walk Thursday in Goldey-Beacom's 8-3 win.

Pozo this season has made four appearances, surrendering no earned runs in three of them, and owns a 1.35 ERA.

Goldey-Beacom (9-7) is 25th as of last week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll and remains second in the just released NCBWA East Region poll.
