5/31/2023 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's continued list of academic achievements increased with 20 of its student-athletes from the spring season tabbed College Sports Communicators Academic All-District.

Maria Bruno (Maracay, Venezuela) and Macy Hendin-Walker (Ipswich, England) were honored for tennis with Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ), Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ), Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD), Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) and Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA) tabbed for softball.

The list continued with Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE), Anthony DiMartino (Sicklerville, NJ), Justin Jump (Wilmington, DE), Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) and Wyatt Atkinson (Moorestown, NJ) selected for baseball before golfers Hunter McGee (Almonte, ON) and Adrian Bonilla (Almeria, Spain) were picked in the at-large category.

Track & field/cross country were the last teams announced with Madelynn Cool (Smyrna, DE), Alexia Cornish (Milford, DE), Camilla Flagg (Mardela Springs, MD), Colin Kay (Lewes, DE), Richard Mesa (Newark, DE) and Kyle Scherer (Wilmington, DE) so honored.

Tennis' highlights include Bruno getting seven doubles victories and four singles wins, helping the Lightning on the verge of making the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.

McLane helped spearhead softball's outstanding campaign by ending first in the league with five saves, seventh with 94 strikeouts and 14th with eight wins.  Makin was a major contributor for the squad over four seasons, this year (32-23) helping the squad record the most victories since getting a school-record 37 during the 1998 season and notch the fourth 30-win season in program annals.

Walker played a big role at third base in being named first team All-CACC two years after getting tabbed second team.  DiMartino excelled on the mount in breaking the program's career strikeouts record (169) and tying the wins mark (14).  This all helped Goldey-Beacom (37-20) play in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons, host a regional for the first time and break the school record for most wins.

McGee was tabbed All-CACC a fourth straight season, leading Goldey-Beacom to the CACC title and a berth in the NCAA Regionals.

Cool ended third in the 5,000-meter run at the Golden Ram Invitational, fourth in the same race at the WCU Invitational and seventh in the 4x400-meter relay at the CACC Championship as GBC ended fifth for its best league finish.  Scherer this spring recorded seven top-10 finishes that included three at the CACC Championship, helping the Lightning close seventh.
