Goldey-Beacom Gets Two More Selected for CACC Weekly Awards

4/3/2023 12:00:00 AM

Another strong week for Goldey-Beacom's spring teams saw senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) picked the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Player of the Week and freshman Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) named to Softball's Weekly Honor Roll.

Kampes batted .522 (12-for-23) on the week with three doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI and five stolen bases.  He opened his week with three hits, a home run and three RBI on Wednesday against Molloy before getting four hits, three RBI and a double in game one Thursday at Alliance.  Kampes then had two hits, two RBI, a double and a home run Sunday in game two at Dominican (NY).

Many players this season for the Lightning have put forth incredible seasons and Kampes is yet another one, giving the squad outstanding hitting and impeccable defense behind the plate.  One of the top all-around athletes at the school over his two seasons, Kampes is first in the CACC with 12 doubles, second with 30 RBI, fourth with five home runs and eighth with a .364 batting average.

Already among the program's elite, Kampes is tied for fifth in team history with 11 home runs, sixth with 63 RBI, tied for sixth with 20 doubles and ninth with a .295 batting average.  This has played a huge role in Goldey-Beacom sitting tied for sixth in the East Region, according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Doctor notched 20 strikeouts over 14 innings, allowing just three earned runs and five walks in getting a pair of victories.  She recorded a career-best 11 strikeouts Friday over seven innings against Caldwell in helping Goldey-Beacom get a huge 4-2 victory.  Doctor also had nine strikeouts over seven innings Wednesday at Jefferson.

It has been a beyond remarkable start to a promising career for Doctor, who has notched double figures in strikeouts three times already this season.  She is first in the league with 89 strikeouts, fourth with eight wins, third with a 1.64 ERA, third with 81 innings pitched and 10th with a .242 batting average against.

Doctor's 89 strikeouts already are the fifth-best single-season total in school history.  This has helped the Lightning record back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since accomplishing this 12 consecutive years from 1991-2002.
