Kyle Walker Picked to CACC Baseball Weekly Honor Roll

3/27/2023 12:00:00 AM

Tying a school record and putting together yet another strong week among his seemingly endless impressive contests, Goldey-Beacom junior third baseman Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) was picked to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll.

Walker batted .500 (5-for-10) on the week with a home run and five RBI.  He had three hits and two RBI on Wednesday in Goldey-Beacom's 21-5 victory over Alliance.  Walker came back Sunday with two hits, a home run and three RBI as GBC split a doubleheader from Post.

The second game of Sunday's doubleheader saw Walker continue an astounding run that bridges the last two seasons.  He homered in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 23 games, tying the school record set last season by Marshall Awtry.  Including an 18-game hitting streak to end last season, Walker has a hit in 41 of his last 42 contests.

The 2021 second team All-CACC pick has been one of the program's most valuable players since the program's reinstatement in 2017.  A gifted athlete and solid competitor, Walker is seventh in the league with 29 hits, seventh with 19 RBI and 12th with a .333 batting average.

Walker is second in team history with a .327 career batting average, fourth with 121 hits, sixth with 68 RBI, sixth with 21 doubles, sixth with 16 stolen bases, seventh with 63 runs and eighth with 81 assists.

Goldey-Beacom (15-9, 2-1 CACC) is tied for sixth in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Poll.  The squad this season has four wins against nationally ranked teams and owns separate winning streaks of six and five games.

Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday hosts Molloy at 3:00 pm.  Its rescheduled doubleheader against Alliance is Thursday at noon and will be played at SIUH Community Park, home of the Staten Island FerryHawks and former home of the Staten Island Yankees.
