Braden Kolmansberger Picked NCBWA East Region Player of the Week; Goldey-Beacom Ranked Seventh in the Latest NCBWA East Region Poll

2/23/2023 12:00:00 AM

Sophomore shortstop Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) was tabbed the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Player of the Week and Goldey-Beacom is ranked seventh in the latest NCBWA East Region Poll.

Kolmansberger batted .353 (6-for-17) on the week with five doubles and nine RBI over four games, earning his spot as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week.  He had an exceptional time against Mercy, getting two hits and three RBI in each of the two contests with three total doubles.

Looking for yet another standout campaign, Kolmansberger last year was picked second team All-CACC at second base after hitting .302 with 23 RBI.  He already is in the program's top 10 with a career .308 batting average, 13 stolen bases and 105 assists.

The first five games simply could not have gone better for the Lightning, who did more permit more than one run in two of them and no great than three runs in three contests.  Two of those victories came against Le Moyne, which entered ranked seventh in the East Region Preseason Poll.

Outstanding hitting has played a big role in the team scoring 51 runs to date.  Sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) and junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) have excelled as debutantes, each recording eight hits in starting every game.  Petrillo owns a .444 batting average with three RBI and Miller has a .364 mark with two doubles and seven RBI.

Junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) continues to play a key role after ending last year with an 18-game hitting streak and closing the 2021 campaign picked second team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.  He is batting .316 this season with six hits and four RBI to go with a hit in each of his last four contests.  Counting his streak from last year, Walker has a hit in 22 of his last 23 games.

On the hill, junior Justin Jump (Wilmington, DE) has been solid with a 2-0 record over 12 innings to go with 10 strikeouts, two walks, two runs allowed and a .077 batting average against.  He struck out seven over eight scoreless innings Sunday against Mercy, allowing just one hit in Goldey-Beacom's 10-0 victory and was tabbed CACC Pitcher of the Week.

Goldey-Beacom (27-25, 18-6 CACC) last season put forth yet another strong campaign in which it broke the school record for most wins and had a team-high 16-game home winning streak entering the CACC Tournament.  GBC was ranked ninth in both the NCAA East Region Rankings and the NCBWA East Region Poll entering the conference tournament.

All of this came after the 2021 squad advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history and won the CACC South Division.

Goldey-Beacom is in action Thursday against Frostburg State to open its second four-game trip in Cary, NC.  Game time is at 7:00 pm.
