Carly Setting Tabbed Second Team All-CACC for Softball

5/3/2022 12:00:00 AM

Junior second baseman Carly Setting (Middletown, DE), whose impact on Goldey-Beacom's softball team was immediate upon her arrival and was consistently meaningful throughout the campaign, was named second team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Setting joined the squad this season and was one of just two to start all 45 contests, providing timely hitting, tremendous speed, solid fielding and great overall awareness of the game that proved to be a major factor for the entire team.

Among her many accomplishments, she is listed by the NCAA as the 28th toughest player to strike out and first as such in the CACC.  She also is eighth in the league with 16 stolen bases, 13th with 49 hits, 13th with 10 doubles, 13th with 69 assists, 17th with 27 RBI, 28th with a .343 batting average, 35th with 88 putouts, 45th with a .427 slugging percentage and 47th with a .353 on-base percentage.

Setting closed leading the team in hits and stolen bases.  Her 16 stolen bases put her tied for fourth on the school's single-season list and her 49 hits are 14th.  Setting's nine-game hitting streak, occurring during the Lightning's first nine games, was tied for second on the team this season.

She is the first for Goldey-Beacom to be cited by the CACC since Charlee King was tabbed second team all-conference in 2014.

All of this took place in a tremendous season of resurgence for the Lightning (24-21, 10-14 CACC) under first-year coach Juli Greep.  The squad recorded its highest victory total since getting 27 wins in 2005, notched its most league victories since posting 14 in 2017 and closed one victory shy of making the CACC Tournament.  The roster featured 10 newcomers, of which many saw extensive playing time during the campaign.
