In the rare occurrence in which listening to a broken record is acceptable, Goldey-Beacom junior catcher Marshall Awtry (Hockessin, DE) again was tabbed first team All-East Region and junior shortstop Mason Maxwell (Newfield, NJ) was picked second team.

This announcement from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) comes one day after the two earned the same awards from the Conference Commissioner's Association (CCA).

Awtry's honor comes after he was picked the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and CoSIDA Academic All-District.  Maxwell's trophy mantle already was occupied with this year's honor of being picked first team all-league, one season after being tabbed second team All-CACC and second team American Baseball Coaches Association All-East Region.

The importance of Awtry in all facets of the game can not be overstated.  His has come through with many clutch hits for one of the area's top programs and his defense is beyond vital whether with his throws to second or his numerous pickoffs at first base that have erased late-inning runners.

Awtry is 66th in the country and first in the CACC with a school-record 14 home runs, fifth in the CACC with 48 RBI, fifth with 64 hits, eighth with 14 doubles, eighth with a .656 slugging percentage, 13th with a .350 batting average and 19th with a .431 on-base percentage.  His 23-game hitting streak earlier this season is a new school record, breaking the old mark of 16.

Plastered all of the program's career record book, Awtry is first with 26 home runs, first with 94 RBI, second with 32 doubles, second with 511 putouts, third with 132 hits, third with 93 runs, fourth with a .311 batting average and sixth with 105 assists.

Maxwell continues to be a beyond gifted athlete who makes the game seem so simple with his hitting that both is powerful and picturesque and his fielding that both is eye-opening and effortless.  He has been a mainstay in the GBC lineup as Mr. Reliable and one who has the ability to change a game's outcome either at the plate or in the field at any point.

Maxwell is first in the league with a team-record 55 runs, third with a school-record 67 hits, seventh with 18 stolen bases, eighth with a .368 batting average, sixth with a .463 on-base percentage and 16th with seven home runs.

Also taking his rightful place in GBC lore, Maxwell is first in team history with a .333 batting average, first with 40 stolen bases, first with 122 runs, second with 148 hits, second with 88 RBI, second with 269 assists, tied for second with 21 home runs, tied for second with five triples and third with 31 doubles.

Awtry and Maxwell were not the only ones for GBC to share the CACC spotlight.  Sophomore first baseman Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) was named second team all-league after being picked first team all-conference and CACC Rookie of the Year last season.  Senior pitcher Mitch Guerrieri (Greentown, PA) was named second-team all-league a second consecutive year and freshman second baseman Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) also was picked second team All-CACC.

Goldey-Beacom (27-25, 18-6 CACC) put forth yet another strong campaign in which it broke the school record for most wins, notched a program-best 17 home victories and had a team-high 16-game home winning streak entering the CACC Tournament.  GBC was ranked ninth in both the NCAA East Region Rankings and the NCBWA East Region Poll following the regular season.

In its just its sixth season and fifth non-Covid campaign, GBC advanced to the CACC Tournament for the third time and this year ended second in the competitive South Division.  This came one year after the squad played in the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
