Goldey-Beacom Gets Two on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll

3/28/2022 12:00:00 AM

More great news made its way to Goldey-Beacom with junior Marshall Awtry (Hockessin, DE) named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Weekly Honor Roll and junior Bianca Newsom (Edison, NJ) picked to the league's Softball Weekly Honor Roll.

Awtry batted .714 (5-for-7) on the week with three doubles, a home run and four RBI.  In game two Saturday at Post, Awtry tied personal bests of three hits and four RBI in addition to getting two doubles and a home run Saturday in Goldey-Beacom's 11-2 rout.  He also had two hits and a double in the opener.

One of the Lightning's most durable and reliable players since his arrival for the 2019 season, Awtry has provided great offense that often has him as the designated hitter and his defense makes him one of the area's premier catchers.

Awtry opened the season with an eight-game hitting streak and presently is on a five-game run.  He leads the CACC with eight doubles and 10 runners caught stealing, is seventh with a .364 batting average, seventh with four home runs, fifth with 21 RBI and 10th with a .453 on base percentage.

Newsom batted .500 (12-for-24) over eight games with two doubles, a triple and five RBI.  She went 5-for-7 in Sunday's doubleheader against Mansfield, recording three hits and a double in game one with two hits and two RBI in the finale.  Newsom also had two hits, a triple and two RBI in game two Saturday against Dominican (NY).

Newsom transferred from Wesley College once again to play for coach Juli Greep and has provided great offense over her 22 starts at shortstop.

She is first in the league with three triples, third with 17 RBI, seventh with eight stolen bases, 12th with a .443 on base percentage and 17th with a .371 batting average.  Newsom is on a nine-game hitting streak, during which she is batting .481 (13-for-27) with six RBI.
