Men’s Golf Finalizes 2022 Spring Schedule

1/26/2022 12:00:00 AM

(2021-22 schedule)

Goldey-Beacom has plenty to look forward to during the 2022 spring season and that optimism hopes to be fulfilled during a slate of challenging tournaments.

GBC gets going March 14 in the two-day Barton Intercollegiate before going to New Jersey from March 28-29 for the Charger Challenge.  The team then goes to upstate New York from April 10-11 for the Showcase Invitational before its short trip April 20 to Langhorne, PA for the Jefferson Tri-Match.

The Lightning then hope they qualify for the NCAA Regional, which will be held May 5-7.

All of this comes after Goldey-Beacom recorded an impressive fall campaign that included two outright victories and closing tied for the best score at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship.  The team ended the fall ranked eighth in the East Region according to Golfstat, good for third-best among CACC schools.

A big reason for this is freshman Hunter McGee (Almonte, ON), who won the CACC individual title last fall and was named to the all-conference team the two prior seasons.  His 2020-21 campaign saw his named CACC Player of the Year after notching two wins and averaging 73.86 over seven rounds.

Last fall, McGee averaged 73.33 over nine rounds with four top-five finishes and a season-best round of 69.  He is ranked 17th in the East Region according to GolfStat.

Freshman Camilo Samur (Bucaramanga, Colombia) also is a major part of the unit, especially after his play last fall has him ranked 24th in the East Region.  He won the GBC Fall Invitational by shooting a career-best 71 as part of his three top-five finishes and also closed tied for 11th at the CACC Championship.

Freshman Mason Kucy (Camrose, AB) made his presence felt during the first tournament of the fall, winning the Jefferson Tri-Match with a career-best 72.  It was one of his three top-10 finishes during the season as he also closed tied for sixth at the CACC Championship.

Freshman Pablo Saenz Avila (Bogota, Colombia) also is back once again looking to provide the team low scores.  The two-time all-conference pick had three top-five finishes in the fall, including second at the GBC Fall invitational with a season-best 73.
