3/31/2021 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's track & field squads made a splash during the first week of honors from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with five awards to four different student-athletes.

Freshman Zaid Barnes (Philadelphia, PA) was picked the Men's Field Athlete and Rookie of the Week, junior Chris Townsend (Voorhees, NJ) was tabbed the Men's Track Athlete of the Week, freshman Khalil Proctor (Newark, DE) made the Men's Weekly Honor Roll and sophomore Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) was tabbed to the Women's Weekly Honor Roll.

Barnes went on a tear Saturday at the Millersville Little Meet.  He closed first in the long jump by covering 6.51 meters and the triple jump at a distance of 12.93 meters.

Townsend won the 800-meter run in 2:02.92 and was part of the winning 4x100-meter relay squad that ended first in 43.89 seconds.  Proctor was part of the winning 4x400-meter relay that closed in 3:39.64, second in the 400-meter dash in 53.01 seconds and fourth in the 200-meter dash in 23.79 seconds.

All of this helped the Lightning with their first team title in program history.  In just its second season, Goldey-Beacom racked up 216 points to easily distance second-place Lancaster Bible by 110 points.

Harrison won the shot put at 11.53 meters and was third in the discus at 36.01 meters to help the women's unit end second.

Goldey-Beacom on April 7 competes at the Delaware State Sting Meet in Dover, DE.
