(2021 schedule)

Goldey-Beacom softball is back this spring and the team looks for another exciting campaign with the reveal of its 2021 schedule.

In a slate featuring only opponents from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, Goldey-Beacom opens things March 20 at home against Caldwell.  This will mark the first home event for the Department of Athletics in any sport in 373 days.

GBC then hosts Chestnut Hill on March 25 before playing three of its next four doubleheaders on the road.  The squad then hosts Georgian Court on April 14 and Felician on April 17 before visiting Jefferson on April 20 and reigning league champion Wilmington (DE) two days later.

The final home doubleheader is April 28 against University of the Sciences and the regular season ends May 1 at Dominican (NY).

The league's top eight teams advance to the conference tournament, which this year will be single elimination with each individual game hosted by the higher seed.  The tournament takes place from May 3-9 with the exact dates for each round to be determined.

With all spring student-athletes retaining a year of eligibility, the Lightning have many key players back in the fold.  One of them is senior first baseman Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD), who has been one of the program's most consistent hitters.  One of the team's most vital players, she enters the year tied for seventh in school history with five career home runs, 18th outright with a .317 batting average and 28th with 103 hits.

Junior Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) once again gives the Lightning stability in the outfield after starting all 45 games she played in 2019.  A solid hitter, runner and fielder, she closed that campaign 42nd in the CACC with a career-high 39 hits and led the squad with 13 multi-hit contests.

Junior Taylor Beres (Middletown, DE) for three years has been one of the Lightning's top pitchers.  Her strong leadership skills have been invaluable and her solid athletic ability has her fourth in school history with 158 career strikeouts, eighth with 258 innings pitched and 17th with 10 wins.

Sophomore Braydee Whitman (Dagsboro, DE) has made a tremendous impact for the infield in just over a year and hopes for more of the same in 2021.  She enters this season with a career .426 slugging percentage that included .846 in last year's aborted campaign.

Goldey-Beacom twice in the last five years was presented the league's team Sportsmanship Award.  The squad for five straight years before the pandemic took part in collecting turkeys and assembling food baskets for the New Castle (DE) County EMS Division Paramedics.  The team took to the Wilmington organization just before Thanksgiving to help cheer up needy families and provide gifts for those underprivileged in the county.
