Goldey-Beacom Gets Three More Tabbed for CACC Weekly Honors

11/8/2021 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom got three more of its student-athletes picked for weekly honors from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with sophomore Noel Talbot (Westminster, MD) named Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, freshman Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, DE) picked to the sport's Weekly Honor Roll and junior Julia Syrdahl (Basking Ridge, NJ) selected to Volleyball's Weekly Honor Roll.

Talbot closed with five saves Wednesday in Goldey-Beacom's 2-0 triumph over Jefferson and Ruggeri ended with a goal and an assist.

Talbot, the only player for the Lightning to start all 16 contests, asserted herself into the number one role at goalkeeper last year and has not relinquished.  Displaying great control of the defense inside the 18, she is seventh in the conference with a 1.39 goals against average and ninth with 51 saves.

Among her elite games this season included nine saves October 9 at Nyack and at least four on six other occasions.  She is fourth in team history with six shutouts and fifth with 128 career saves.

Ruggeri immediately cracked the starting lineup and was a dominant force with her exceptional scoring ability, tremendous passing skills and overall knowledge of the collegiate game.  Even with the extra attention she received as the year progressed, she still is eighth in the country with 2.20 points per game, ninth with 0.60 assists per contest, 13th with nine assists, 16th with 33 points, 22nd with 0.80 goal per game and 23rd with 12 goals.

Among those figures, Ruggeri leads the conference in goals, assists and points.  Her 33 points are tied for fifth on the school's single-season list, her nine assists are tied for sixth and her 12 goals are tied for ninth.

It is Ruggeri's third pick to the league's Weekly Honor Roll.  She has been named the league's Rookie of the Week twice and Player of the Week once.

Goldey-Beacom is in the CACC Tournament for a school-record seventh straight year and on Tuesday will visit Wilmington in the quarterfinals, beginning at 1:00 pm.  The Lightning are on a six-game winning streak, tied for the school record.

Syrdahl closed with 18 kills, a .264 hitting percentage, 11 blocks, 12 digs and four aces over three matches.  She ended Goldey-Beacom's 3-0 win Friday over Post with 11 kills, just one error, a .526 hitting percentage, three digs, two blocks and two aces.

In making the Weekly Honor Roll for a sixth time this season, Syrdahl reasserted herself as one of the area's top players at the net.  She is seventh in the league with a .289 hitting percentage, 13th with 247 kills, 14th with 57 blocks, 15th with 2.60 kills per set and 17th with 31 aces.

Syrdahl is fifth in school history with 187 blocks and 10th with 618 kills.
