Three for Goldey-Beacom Picked for CACC Weekly Honors

11/15/2021 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom received three honors from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with senior Neyshlian Roman Concepcion (Toa Baja, PA) picked the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, junior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) named the Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) tabbed to the Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.

Roman Concepcion ended her outstanding Goldey-Beacom career with 47 digs last week over two matches.  She had 23 digs Wednesday against Holy Family and notched 24 on Thursday at Lincoln, raising her school-record, single-season total to 660.

Unquestionably one the department's most valuable players among the fall sports, Roman Concepcion had an exceptional two-year run at libero and both her overall play and leadership will be very difficult to replace.  She graduates sixth in school history with 1,161 career digs and the only one to reach quadruple figures in just two seasons.

It is the third time this season she has been picked the league's Defensive Player of the Week.

Harrison ended with 28 points on 13-of-23 shooting, 13 rebounds, six blocks and four steals over two games.  She poured in 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting with nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals in Goldey-Beacom's 68-64 victory Saturday over Saint Rose.  Harrison also had 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting with four rebounds, four blocks and two steals Friday in her squad's 58-45 triumph over Saint Michael's.

Harrison gives the Lightning strong post play and once again this season will be looked at as a go-to player.  Her .526 career field goal percentage is tops in school history and her 77 blocks are fifth.

Derry averaged 17.0 points and 5.5 rebounds over two games to go with six 3-pointers and three steals.  He had a career day Sunday with personal bests of 24 points and five 3-pointers to go with five rebounds and three steals against Southern Connecticut State.  Derry also had 10 points and six rebounds Saturday versus Bridgeport.

A solid all-around competitor, Derry during the 2019-20 campaign established himself as a strong two-way player by ending 64th in the country with 54 steals, 71st with 1.86 steals per game and 37th in the CACC with 10.8 points per contest.
