Goldey-Beacom's latest successful week took yet another positive turn with four student-athletes picked for weekly awards from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Senior Bailey Spence (Newark, DE) was tabbed Baseball's Pitcher of the Week, freshman Luke Taylor (Souderton, PA) made that sport's Weekly Honor Roll with junior Tyler Jones (Lawrenceville, NJ) and sophomore Juran Ligonde (Boston, MA) named to the Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.

Spence struck out six over seven innings, allowing just an unearned run and four hits in Goldey-Beacom's 2-1 victory Sunday over Frostburg State.  It was his second victory in as many starts, after getting four strikeouts February 16 against Limestone, earning a spot on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.

Taylor recorded the victory Saturday against Clarion, striking out six over four innings and permitting just a run and three hits in Goldey-Beacom's 7-3 win.  This was after getting eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 solid relief frames February 16 at Limestone.

The Lightning (5-3) are off to a flying start in their fourth year of existence and today learned they received votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Poll.

Goldey-Beacom this weekend faces perennial-power Millersville in a four-game series.  That begins Saturday with a doubleheader at Doyle Field, starting at noon.

Jones averaged 18.0 points over two games on 13-of-21 shooting to go with eight 3-pointers, six assists and four rebounds.  He scored a season-best 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go with six 3-pointers Tuesday in his squad's 110-101 win versus Chestnut Hill.  Jones then had 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals, two 3-pointers and a huge drawn charge with 19 seconds left in Goldey-Beacom's 78-69 victory Saturday over Georgian Court.

Having an impressive campaign in taking charge of the offense, Jones is 69th in the country with 47 steals, 83rd with a 2.09 assist-to-turnover ratio, 84th with 1.81 steals per game and seventh in the league with 92 assists.

Ligonde averaged 10.0 rebounds over two contests.  He hauled in 12 rebounds Saturday against Georgian Court and eight Tuesday versus Chestnut Hill.  Ligonde scored 15 points in each game.

A strong presence in the post, Ligonde has been a major factor in what the Lightning have accomplished this season.  He is 29th in the league with 12 blocks, 36th with 4.8 rebounds per game and 74th with 6.9 points per contest.

Goldey-Beacom (14-12, 11-6 CACC) has clinched second place in the CACC South Division and will host a quarterfinal in the conference tournament for a third straight year, one shy of the school record (2009-12).

The quarterfinal takes place Tuesday, March 3 at the Jones Center, beginning at 6:00 pm against the third seed from the North Division.
