After a year in which it made the conference tournament for the first time, Goldey-Beacom was picked to return as it was selected to end fourth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division based on a vote of the league's coaches.

Goldey-Beacom (19-28-1, 17-15 CACC) in 2018 had an incredible campaign in just its second year since the reinstitution of a sport that competed for Goldey College more than a half-century ago.  The combination of freshmen and seasoned players helped the unit win five of its last eight games to end fourth in the CACC South Division and reach the conference tournament.

A major strength of the team is pitching and the Lightning bring back many quality starters.  Senior Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ) is back after being picked first team all-conference a season ago, getting a team-record 61 strikeouts and also closing among the league's elite in hits allowed, strikeouts per game and innings pitched.

Abdul also looks to provide a lift with his bat after hitting .282 to go with a .389 on-base percentage and a .346 slugging percentage.

Two more quality starters who enter their sophomore campaign are Trevor Jump (Wilmington, DE) and Mitch Guerrieri (Greentown, PA).  Jump was picked second team All-CACC after finishing among the league's best in multiple categories, including 39th in the nation with 6.31 hits allowed per nine innings.  Guerrieri fired a school-record 65 2/3 innings, finished second in the league with four complete games and 12th with a 3.84 ERA.

Goldey-Beacom opens its season February 16 as part of a four-game series at Limestone.  Its home opener is scheduled for March 2 in a doubleheader vs. New Haven.
