Baseball Gains Split of Doubleheader vs. Chestnut Hill



Goldey-Beacom ended its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Chestnut Hill with a 6-0 victory after opening with a 3-1 loss at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.
 
Wilmington, DE freshman Trevor Jump (2-2) was the story in game two for the Lightning, tossing a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and two walks.  He permitted only a leadoff single by Matthews Owens in the second.
 
GBC busted open things with a three-run fifth inning for the final.  Senior Jay Smith (Zeeland, MI) roped a two-run single to center and later scored on a throwing error.
 
Senior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON) also closed with two RBI, getting his on a two-run double in the second.  Sophomore Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) finished with two hits.
 
Matthew Kress (2-3) permitted six runs – four earned – and seven hits over five innings with three strikeouts for the Griffins.
 
Chestnut Hill in game one opened a 2-1 lead in the seventh on Andrew Dietz' RBI double.  The margin doubled to 3-1 on a key insurance marker in the ninth, courtesy of Jared Healey's run-scoring single.
 
Sophomore Brandon Ferrie (Royersford, PA) pitched great in a no-decision, yielding just one run and five hits over 5 2/3 frames with two strikeouts for the Lightning (8-16-1, 6-4 CACC).  Wauseon, OH senior Jake Trejo (2-2) gave up two runs – one earned – and three hits over 3 1/3 frames with three strikeouts.
 
Dino Cattai (3-0) got the victory, surrendering just an unearned run and five hits over nine innings with two strikeouts for the Griffins (8-10, 4-4).  Eric Small closed with two hits.
 
Goldey-Beacom closes its 10-game homestand Friday against Jefferson in a noon doubleheader.
