Baseball Drops Two at Millersville



Goldey-Beacom once again played two games against a formidable Millersville squad and was dealt a pair of losses, 9-5 and 12-3 in Millersville, PA.
 
Goldey-Beacom in game one got two runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-0 lead.  Junior Calvin Clark (Millville, NJ) lined an RBI double and sophomore Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) followed with a run-scoring single.
 
In a 3-3 tie entering the fifth, Millersville scored twice to grab the lead as Ben Snyder lined an RBI double and Jimmy Cain added a run-scoring single.  Goldey-Beacom again fought back in the last of the frame, getting a two-run homer from freshman Andy Salzmann (Dunmore, PA) for a 5-5 contest.
 
But Millersville's Cole Friese continued to haunt GBC this series, launching a three-run homer in the sixth to make it 8-5.
 
Collins, Salzmann, Jay Smith (Zeeland, MI), fellow senior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON) and senior Edwin Lee (La Plata, MD) all rapped two hits with Lee getting his second career home run for the Lightning.  Derwood, MD freshman Jake Heskett (0-1) allowed four runs and four hits over 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.
 
Friese and Snyder each had two hits and three RBI for the Marauders.  Liam Grande struck out three over 2 2/3 frames for the win.
 
Millersville in game two got five runs across in the top of the first.  Snyder continued his solid weekend with a three-run homer, Brandon White lined an RBI double and Luke Trainer lifted a sacrifice fly.
 
The Marauders got three more runs in the third for a 9-0 lead.  Luke Trainer and Ted Williams each had an RBI single sandwiched around Kaylor Kulina lifted a sacrifice fly.
 
The Lightning in the sixth got an RBI double from sophomore Justin Hill (Seaford, DE), followed by a run-scoring single from Smith for a 10-2 deficit.
 
Wilmington, DE freshman Trevor Jump (0-2) gave up five runs and four hits over an inning for GBC (2-8-1).
 
Snyder had two home runs and four RBI with Brookens adding two hits for the Marauders (9-4), who had six pitchers combine to allow just two hits and record 12 strikeouts.
 
Goldey-Beacom is home Friday against Clarion for a noon doubleheader in Hockessin, DE.
