Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Drops a Pair of Tight Contests at Pace

Goldey-Beacom got great pitching in both of its games at Pace, but could not generate enough offense in losses of 4-1 and 3-2 in Pleasantville, NY.

The Lightning in game one grabbed a 1-0 lead as junior Calvin Clark (Millville, NJ) singled, took third on a pair of wild pitches and scored on a sacrifice fly from senior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON).

The Setters leveled things in the third on Paul Piccolino's ground-rule double that scored Matt Almonte.  They scored three times in the fifth for the final on Michael Gulino's two-run double and Felix Camacho's sacrifice fly.

Old Bridge, NJ junior Brandon Abdul (1-2) struck out three over five innings, yielding four runs and seven hits.  Sophomore Brandon Ferrie (Royersford, PA) followed with three relief innings, striking out three and permitting just one hit.

Dan Wirchansky (2-0) struck out 14 over eight innings, permitting one run and three hits for Pace.  Ryan Aquino struck out one over a hitless ninth inning for the save with Piccolino and Almonte collecting two hits apiece.

Pace in game two opened a 2-0 cushion in the last of the first inning with Piccolino scoring on a wild pitch and Michael Barbato getting an RBI single.

Marsden then continued his long-ball mastery with a solo home run in the second for a 2-1 deficit.  It is his fourth home run of the season and ninth career to extend his own school record.

Sophomore Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) lined an RBI single in the top of the sixth to forge a 2-2 tie.  However, Gulino broke the deadlock with a run-scoring single that plated Ryan Crowley for the final.

Greentown, PA freshman Mitch Guerrieri (0-2) more than kept the Lightning (2-10-1) in the contest, striking out seven over six innings and allowing no walks, three runs and four hits for his first complete game.

Alex Busby came on in relief to strike out four over four innings, surrendering one run and two hits for the Setters (4-0-1).  Gulino amassed two hits.

Goldey-Beacom returns to action Wednesday against East Stroudsburg.  Please note the game will take place at the Ripken Baseball Complex in Aberdeen, MD and has been moved up to a 1:00 pm start.
