Baseball Splits at Dominican



Goldey-Beacom closed its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Dominican (NY) with a 10-7 victory after opening with a 5-3 loss in Pomona, NY.
 
Down 7-5 in game two, GBC plated two runs in the fifth for a 7-7 tie.  Junior Raul Perez-Duran (Trenton, NJ) had an RBI groundout and freshman Justin Hill (Seaford, DE) leveled things with a run-scoring single.
 
The Lightning then scored three times in the sixth for the final.  Freshman Trent Hearn (Bethel, DE) laid down a sacrifice bunt that resulted in an error to score Brandon Hanson (Bayonne, NJ), fellow freshman Tevin Thomas (Dover, DE) notched a sacrifice fly and sophomore Calvin Clark (Millville, NJ) lined an RBI double.
 
Hill ended with three RBI as he, Clark, Hanson and junior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON) all had two hits for the Lightning (7-33, 5-17 CACC).  Milford, DE freshman Holden Bailey (1-1) allowed just two hits over 3 2/3 innings for his first collegiate save and freshman Isaiah Holmes (Coatesville, PA) struck out two over two scoreless frames for his first save.
 
Anthony Bartolomei notched three RBI, Soto and Decker each amassed three hits with Brett Schneider (2-3) yielding three runs – two earned – and three hits in just recording one out for the Chargers (17-24, 11-11).
 
Dominican in game one took the lead for good with two runs in the third for a 3-1 cushion with Arbely Soto crushing a two-run homer.  Brandon Simone added an RBI groundout in the fourth for a 4-1 Chargers lead.
 
The Lightning got two back in the fifth with Hearn recording an RBI ground out and Thomas adding a sacrifice fly, getting within 4-3.  But Justin Decker added an insurance run for the Chargers in the seventh with an RBI single for the final.
 
Thomas and freshman Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) had two hits apiece and Smyrna, DE freshman John Barkley Jr. (0-5) allowed four runs – three earned – and five hits over six innings for the Lightning.
 
John-Michael Broderick (4-2) got the win after yielding three runs and seven hits over five innings for Domincan.  Nicholas Galese struck out four over four innings for the save and Soto ended with three hits.
 
Goldey-Beacom
is home Sunday for a 1:00 pm doubleheader against Felician.
