Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Dramatically Earns First Sweep in Program History

Goldey-Beacom completed its first sweep in program history on Friday afternoon. On a mostly cloudy day at Doyle Field, the Lightning dramatically beat Chestnut Hill by scores of 4-3 and 2-1.

Zach Roseman, a freshman from Wilmington, Del., put the first run on the board blasting an RBI double through the left field side.

In the top of the eighth inning, with two outs, Keegan Marsden (junior from Stratford, Ont.) dove toward third base and made a spectacular play on the ground ball throwing out Christopher Demey at first base.

With the Griffins holding a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Lightning refused to give up. With the bases loaded, Calvin Clark (sophomore from Millville, N.J.) was hit by a pitch lowering the Lightning deficit to 3-2. Roseman (2 RBI) grounded out to shortstop, but helped score Trent Hearn (freshman from Bethel, Del.) on the play.

Raul Perez-Duran (2 for 4), the junior from Trenton, N.J., stepped up to the plate hitting a walk-off RBI single up the middle to cap a wild comeback.

Blake Salesky (junior from Aurora, Ill.) started on the mound for the Lightning and was superb. He pitched seven innings, while tallying nine strikeouts and allowing two earned runs on six hits.

Isaiah Holmes (1-0), the freshman from Coatesville, Pa., earned the win for the Lightning. He pitched two innings and allowed one hit with one earned run.

Hearn (2 for 4), Marsden (2 for 5), and Tevin Thomas (1 for 3, 2 walks) had notable batting performances for Goldey-Beacom.

Austin DiBonaventure (0-1) took the loss for Chestnut Hill.

The competitive and drama-filled doubleheader continued into game two.

In a heated pitching duel, Jake Kinsell (1-6), the freshman from Carmichaels, Pa., got the win. He pitched six innings, allowed three hits and no earned runs.

Justin Hill (freshman from Seaford, Del.) was clutch in the batters' box for the Lightning. He smashed a solo homer over the left-field fence to even the score at 1-1.

In the sixth inning, Roseman, the starting second baseman, made an amazing diving catch and throw to third base for a momentous double play ending the inning. While at the plate, Hill (2 for 3, 2 RBI) continued his hot hitting with an RBI single toward left field to give the Lightning a 2-1 lead.

Holden Bailey, the freshman from Milford, Del., earned his first save of the season. He pitched the final inning, allowing no hits and no earned runs.

Joseph Monaghan (1-1) received the loss for the Griffins (17-12-1).

Goldey-Beacom (5-31) returns to the diamond Saturday against Concordia (NY). First pitch, for the CACC doubleheader, is scheduled for noon at Doyle Field in Hockessin, Del.
