Baseball Splits a Pair With Concordia (NY)

Goldey-Beacom grabbed an early lead in notching an 8-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Concordia (NY) before a late rally fell short in game two for a 4-3 loss in Hockessin, DE.

The Lightning in game one broke the ice with three runs in the last of the first inning.  Sophomore Calvin Clark (Millville, NJ) lifted a sacrifice fly, Zach Roseman (Wilmington, DE) lined an RBI double and fellow freshman Justin Hill (Seaford, DE) added a run-scoring single.

Junior Edwin Lee (La Plata, MD) in the fourth inning had an RBI single and junior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON) added a sacrifice fly later in the frame for a 5-0 margin.  Roseman made sure the lead stuck by clubbing a two-run homer in the fifth for his first collegiate long ball and a 7-0 margin.

Roseman, Hill, Lee and freshman Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) all had two hits for GBC.  Royersford, PA freshman Brandon Ferrie (2-5) struck out five over eight innings, allowing one run and five hits.

Tyler Epple had two hits and two RBI for the Clippers.  Michael Romano (0-4) permitted eight runs – six earned – and seven hits over six innings.

Concordia in game two opened a 2-0 lead in the first when German Dilone had an RBI single and Denny DeLos Santos added a run-scoring groundout.

Clark brought home Marsden on a double play in the first to make it 2-1, but the Clippers added two in the second for a 4-1 margin.  Eric Roubal notched an RBI single and Epple added a run-scoring double.

The Lightning closed to 4-3 with Marsden getting a sacrifice fly in the second and junior Jason Rowe (West Hills, CA) adding an RBI groundout in the fourth.  Things looked good for GBC in the seventh when freshman Trent Hearn (Bethel, DE) led off with a triple, but he was gunned down at home on Clark's one-out fielder's choice.

Trenton, NJ junior Raul Perez-Duran (1-4) surrendered four runs – three earned – and six hits over seven innings with three strikeouts for the Lightning (6-32, 4-16 CACC).

Thomas Burke (1-4) got the win after allowing three runs – two earned – and six hits over six innings for Concordia (4-27, 3-15).  Connor Stapleton fired a scoreless seventh for his second save of the year.

Goldey-Beacom is off until Friday, when it hosts Felician in a noon doubleheader.
