Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Swept at Wilmington (DE)

Goldey-Beacom headed to Wilmington (DE) for a doubleheader at Wilson Field and was handed a pair of losses, 8-3 and 7-0, in New Castle, DE.

Wilmington in game one scored twice in the first inning on a two-run single from Max Carney for a 2-0 lead.  It then got run-scoring singles from Kendall Small and Frank Nigro in the third, sandwiched around a solo homer from Regan Hidalgo for a 5-0 cushion.

Sophomore Calvin Clark (Millville, NJ) again continued his solid campaign for GBC with a three-run homer for his team-leading fifth long ball of the season and a 5-3 deficit.  But the Lightning could get no closer with the Wildcats posting two insurance markers in the sixth, keyed by Small's two-run single.

Sophomore Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ) had two hits, but Smyrna, DE freshman John Barkley Jr. (0-4) gave up six runs – four earned – and 10 hits over five innings with three strikeouts for the Lightning.

Small, Nigro, Carney, Kyle Fries and Julian Kurych all had two hits for Wilmington.  Justin Mears (2-1) permitted three runs and eight hits over six innings.

The Wildcats in game two broke open things with a five-run sixth inning for a 7-0 lead.  Nick Macey drew a bases-loaded walk, Logan Gilbert scored on an error and Jesse Long lined a two-run single.

Freshman Zach Roseman (Wilmington, DE) clubbed two hits and Abdul (1-4) allowed six runs – three earned – and three hits over 5 2/3 innings with five strikeouts for the Lightning (3-31).

Zach Rumford (3-2) pitched great for the Wildcats (24-13) in facing just six batters above the minimum, striking out five in a five-hit shutout.

Goldey-Beacom is home Friday for a non-conference doubleheader vs. Chestnut Hill, starting at noon.
