On a gorgeous sunny afternoon at Doyle Field, Goldey-Beacom baseball played a doubleheader against the University of New Haven. The Lightning lost both games by final scores of 3-0 and 4-3 in eight innings.
In game one, the Chargers scored all of their runs in the fourth inning. Joe Caico (2 for 3) hit an RBI double to right field to score the first run of the game.Â
David Palmer (4-0) played a complete game for the Chargers. He pitched all seven innings, allowed four hits, no earned runs, and totaled seven strikeouts.
Zach Roseman (2 for 3), a freshman from Wilmington, Del., and Raul Perez-Duran (2 for 3) showed solid hitting performances.Â
Brandon Ferrie (0-5), a freshman from Royersford, Pa., pitched all seven innings for the Lighting. He allowed eight hits, three earned runs and tallied three strikeouts.
In game two, the Chargers (15-7) snuck out a win in extra innings.Â
The Lightning struck in the first inning when Calvin Clark (sophomore from Millville, N.J.) hit an RBI single down the right field side.
After New Haven took a 2-1 lead in the third inning, Tevin Thomas (2 for 3) smacked an RBI single to left center to even the score.Â
Thomas, the freshman from Dover, Del., continued his stellar play by hitting another RBI single to give Goldey-Beacom a 3-2 lead.
In the seventh inning, with one more out to go, Matt Chamberlain played spoiler hitting an RBI double down the left field side.Â
With the score tied at 3-3, in the eighth inning, Chargers' Nick Perrelli scored on a throwing error to eventually seal the fate of the Lightning.
Tim Kennedy (4-0) received the win for New Haven by pitching two innings, while allowing one hit and striking out five batters.
Perez-Duran (1-3), a junior from Trenton, N.J., took the loss for the Lightning. He pitched all eight innings, allowed seven hits and two earned runs.
Goldey-Beacom (3-29) plays its next game on the road against Wilmington University. The doubleheader in New Castle starts at noon on Wednesday, April 19.
