Baseball Falls Twice to University of the Sciences

The first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball games in Goldey-Beacom history did not go as planned as it dropped both, 14-6 and 13-4, to University of the Sciences in Dover, DE.

Goldey-Beacom in the opener eradicated a four-run first-inning deficit with four runs of its own in the last of the frame. Freshman Zach Roseman (Wilmington, DE) laced an RBI single to left and sophomore Calvin Clark (Millville, NJ) sent everyone home with a three-run homer to right.

But USciences (5-7, 2-0 CACC) got four more in the second for an 8-4 contest, courtesy of just two hits with three errors. Pat Hiester had an RBI groundout that resulted in two runs and Ryan Scholey lined an RBI single through the left side.

Wauseon, OH junior Jake Trejo (0-3) permitted eight runs -- three earned -- and five hits over one-plus innings with a strikeout for the Lightning.  Freshman John Barkley Jr. (Smyrna, DE) pitched solidly in relief, striking out five and not allowing an earned run over five innings.

Roseman closed with two hits for GBC.

Eric Stratori (1-1) settled down after the first inning and got the win, striking out seven over as many frames and allowing six runs with five hits. Scholey had three hits as he, Hiester and Christian DeLuca all had two RBI.

USciences in game two scored four times in the third for a 5-0 lead, keyed by a two-run single from Nick Amicon.

Junior Edwin Lee (La Plata, MD) launched a two-run homer for GBC (0-12, 0-2) in the sixth inning and freshman Grant Reed (Shenandoah Junction, WV) had a pinch-hit RBI triple in the seventh.  Royersford, PA freshman Brandon Ferrie (0-2) permitted seven runs – three earned – and eight hits over four innings with five strikeouts.

Matt Miniconzi homered twice and closed with four RBI for the Devils.  Chris Geraci (1-2) struck out six, yielding three runs – two earned – and three hits over six innings.
