Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Drops Two to Barton In Historic Day

Junior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON) homered in each game on the first day of baseball in Goldey-Beacom history, but it not was not enough as the squad dropped two games at Barton by scores of 21-3 and 4-1 in Wilson, NC.

With any start, the firsts are always important.  Among them include freshman Tevin Thomas (Dover, DE) getting the first hit and first RBI in school history, sophomore Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ) recording the first double before scoring the first run in the sixth inning, junior Jake Trejo (Wauseon, OH) throwing the Lightning's first pitch and Marsden homering in the top of the seventh.

Thomas in game one closed with two hits and Trejo (0-1) was tagged with the loss.

Andrew Webster notched four hits and six RBI for the Bulldogs.  Trent Fennell (3-0) struck out eight, yielding one run and four hits over six innings.

Marsden in game two blasted another long ball, this time in the seventh inning to cut into a 4-0 deficit and was one of the team's four hits.

Abdul (0-1) permitted two runs and five hits over four innings with two strikeouts for GBC (0-2).

Tyler Garrett had two hits and Kerry Walker (4-0) struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing one run and four hits for the Bulldogs (12-0).

Baseball is the College's first debutant since women's tennis was introduced in 2005-06 and is the school's 11th sport.

While baseball will be new under the name Goldey-Beacom College, it is a re-instatement for the institution.  Baseball was played at what was then called Goldey College as early as 1922 and continued into the 1950s.  This included an undefeated season in 1935 and the Atlantic Coast championship (no affiliation with the current Atlantic Coast Conference) in 1947.

The teams play the finale of their three-game series Sunday in a single game, beginning at noon.
