WILMINGTON, Del. - Led by sophomore guard
Tori Trador (Indian Rocks Christian School/Seminol, Fla.), Nyack College (3-10, 2-4) used a strong shooting effort from three-point range to defeat Goldey-Beacom College (6-7, 3-3) by a 73-59 margin in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at the Joseph West Jones College Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors, who snapped a four-game losing streak with the win, made 10 of 20 shots from beyond the arc en route to handing the Lightning their fourth loss in the last five games.
After the teams battled to a 16-16 tie in the first eight minutes of the opening stanza, the Warriors used a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 28-18 lead on a lay-up by junior guard
Mariah Brown (Stockton, Calif.) with 8:05 remaining.
The Lightning answered by scoring 10 of the next 14 points, including three-point field goals from freshman guard
Jasmyne Lewis (Rancocas Valley H.S./Mount Holly, N.J.) and junior guards
Lillian Chukwueze (Cherry Hill East H.S./Cherry Hill, N.J.) and
Taylor Leonard (John A. Coleman Catholic H.S./Lake Katrine, N.Y.), to narrow the deficit to 32-28 with 5:51 left in the half.
But, the Warriors ended the first half with a 10-2 spurt to take a 42-30 advantage into the intermission.
The Warriors continued to build their lead in the first six minutes and led by a 54-37 margin with 14:02 left on a pair of free throws from Brown.
The Lightning put together a 10-2 spurt to trim their deficit to 56-47 on a jumper by junior forward
Chelsea Grover (Seneca H.S./Southampton, N.J.) with 8:35 left, but were unable to get any closer.
Trador, who made 9 of 17 three-point field goal attempts in a loss against Caldwell on Thursday night, connected on three of six tries from beyond the arc en route to a 15-point performance with three steals.
Meanwhile, junior forward
Audrey Matteson (Monticello, Ind.) led the Warriors with 16 points while adding six assists. She made seven of nine shots from the floor, including one of two three-point field goal attempts. Brown contributed 14 points after going 4-for-9 from the field while making four of six free throws.
Chukwuee scored 16 points for the Lightning, including 12 points in the first half, while grabbing eight rebounds with three assists. Grover added 13 points with eight rebounds while Lewis contributed 11 points with seven rebounds.
The Lightning will continue their three-game homestand on Wednesday, Jan. 8 when they host defending CACC champion Holy Family University at 6 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader at the Jones Center.
