WILMINGTON, Del. - Senior defender
Amanda Halter (Cheyenne, Wyo.) recorded a "hat trick" with three goals as Nyack College (4-3-0, 3-1-0) overcame a first half deficit to earn its third win in the last four matches, a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (0-5-0, 0-5-0) at the Lightning's Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field on Saturday afternoon.
Halter, who has scored 5 of the Warriors' 11 goals this season, scored two of her goals in the second half as the Warriors rallied to hand the Lightning their fifth consecutive setback.
Junior defender
Nicole Curry (Lenape H.S./Mount Laurel, N.J.) gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute when she gathered a loose ball and scored on a long shot from 22 yards. It was Curry's first goal of the season.
But, the Warriors answered in the 36th minute when Halter took a crossing pass from senior defender
Alexa Gonzalez (Vallejo, Calif.) and converted a shot on a one-on-one opportunity with freshman goalkeeper
Cindell Aguirre (Coronado H.S./El Paso, Texas).
In the 62nd minute, Halter scored her second goal of the match on a penalty kick to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead after a Nyack player was fouled in the penalty area by junior defender
Danielle Scott (Williamstown H.S./Williamstown, N.J.).
With 2:59 remaining in regulation, Halter added an insurance goal when she scored on a shot to the top right corner of the goal off an assist from freshman midfielder
Kassandra Tischer (Mississauga, Canada).
While Halter led the Warriors to the victory with her three-goal effort, junior goalkeeper
Madeline Barbarino (Staten Island, N.Y.) paced the Nyack defense by making one save.
Aguirre tallied six saves in a losing effort for the Lightning, who were outshot by a 21-2 margin.
The Lightning will continue their four-match homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 1 by hosting Philadelphia University in a CACC match at 3 p.m.
