CALDWELL, N.J. – Led by a goal and an assist from sophomore midfielder
Sariana Soriano (Archbishop Mitty H.S./San Jose, Calif.), Caldwell College (2-1-0, 1-0-0) erupted for a season-high six goals en route to its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win of the season, a 6-0 victory over Goldey-Beacom College (0-2-0, 0-2-0) at the Caldwell College Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars, who rebounded after a 4-0 loss against Southern New Hampshire on Sunday, scored four of their six goals in the first half en route to the win.
After the Cougars took a 1-0 lead on an own goal in the fifth minute, junior forward
Natalie Migoya (Morris Catholic H.S./Lincoln Park, N.J.) extended the advantage to 2-0 when she took a pass from Soriano and scored on a breakaway for her second goal of the year.
Just under six minutes later, senior midfielder
Julie Crankshaw (Lacey Township H.S./Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) upped the margin to 3-0 when she converted passes from Migoya and freshman midfielder
Caroline Slater (Shore Regional H.S./West Long Branch, N.J.) for her first goal of the season.
Junior forward
Ashlee Paknis (Pinelands Regional H.S./Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) scored just 80 seconds later when she tallied her first goal of the season on a rebound of her own shot, giving Caldwell a 4-0 lead.
In the 61st minute, Soriano extended the gap to 5-0 when she headed in a crossing pass from senior defender
Rebecca Stinger (Hammonton H.S./Atco, N.J.). Less than seven minutes later, freshman midfielder
Delaney Boyer (Freehold Boro H.S./Freehold, N.J.) scored her first career goal on a shot from 18 yards.
Junior goalkeeper
Robin Franchi (Deptford H.S./Sewell, N.J.) made one save to earn her first shutout of the season as the Cougars outshot the Lightning by a 23-3 margin.
Freshman goalkeeper
Cindell Aguirre (Coronado H.S./El Paso, Texas) recorded nine saves in a losing effort for the Lightning, who dropped their second straight match to open the season.
The Lightning will face Post University in their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m.
