CHEYNEY, Pa. – Junior outside hitter
Kadi McCoy (Dallastown H.S./Dallastown, Pa.) posted her first "double double" of the season with a season-high 19 kills and 12 digs as Goldey-Beacom College (1-4) rallied to earn its first win of the season, a five-set, non-conference victory over Cheyney University (0-1) at the Wolves' Cope Hall on Tuesday evening.
The Lightning, who were playing their fifth consecutive road match to open the season, earned the victory by scores of 25-15, 17-25, 25-27, 25-16 and 15-11.
McCoy, who leads the Lightning with 50 kills in five matches this year, nearly recorded a "triple double" as she tallied six service aces in the victory. Meanwhile, freshman setter
Kim Matlock (Jackson Memorial H.S./Jackson, N.J.) added a "double double" in the match with 16 assists and 11 digs. She also tallied a season-high seven service aces for the Lightning.
Senior opposite
Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) contributed the first "double double" of her career after posting a season-high 10 kills with 12 digs. She also added four assists and three service aces.
Making her college debut, freshman middle hitter
Breanna Joseph (Pleasant Valley H.S./Effort, Pa.) tallied a "double double" with 10 kills and 14 digs while also adding four blocks. Senior middle hitter
Lindsay Ashby (Academy Charter H.S./Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 10 kills with six digs and three blocks.
The Lightning will open their home schedule on Thursday night when they welcome Georgian Court University to the Joseph West Jones College Center. Opening serve in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener for both teams is slated for 7 p.m.
