Volleyball’s Six-Match Winning Streak Over With 3-1 Loss at Wilmington

Despite a solid first set, Goldey-Beacom saw its six-match winning streak snapped with a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss (25-20, 23-25, 19-25, 20-25) at Wilmington (DE) in Newark, DE.

Sophomore Kelci Gingras (Orem UT) in the opening set again set the tone with four kills and no errors over five swings for an .800 hitting percentage.  She, along with junior Juliana Malena (Miami, FL) and sophomore Ashley Fru (Brandywine, MD), had two of the Lightning's seven aces in the set.

Goldey-Beacom (10-3, 2-1 CACC) in the second set went on an 11-7 run, turning a 14-10 deficit into a 21-all tie thanks to three kills from junior Etta Harris (North East, MD).  However, Wilmington got two kills from Liani Sierra in a set-ending 4-2 run that included set point.

The Wildcats in the third owned a 16-11 kills advantage and used a .262 percentage to open a two sets to one lead.  Wilmington in the fourth was limited to a .067 percentage, but it was good enough for the win.

Gingras closed with 10 kills and 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the campaign, Harris and sophomore Gabi Fullwood (Powder Springs, GA) notched 10 kills apiece, Malena dished 20 assists, Fru had 17 with junior Brianna Anderson (Mesa, AZ) adding 21 digs.

Sierra pounded 15 kills with Addison Hoover adding 13 for Wilmington (3-12, 2-1).

Goldey-Beacom has a quick turnaround before its Friday match at Post, which starts at 3:00 pm.
