WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior guard Devonne Richardson (Milford Mill Academy/Baltimore, Md.) scored a game-high 23 points and added 12 rebounds with eight assists as Goldey-Beacom College (20-9) used a strong defensive effort to advance to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball semifinals with a 63-42 victory over Post University (11-16) in a quarterfinal game at the Joseph West Jones College Center on Saturday afternoon.

Richardson, who nearly recorded her second “triple double” of the season, tallied the sixth 20-point game of her college career as the Lightning will advance to the CACC semifinals for the third time in the last four years. Goldey-Beacom, the second seed in the South Division, will face North Division champion Caldwell in the first semifinal game on Friday, Mar. 8 at 12 p.m.

After the teams battled to a 5-5 tie in the opening six minutes of the first half, the Eagles scored five of the next nine points to take a 10-9 lead with 12:06 remaining in the first half on a three-point field goal by junior guard Aubrey Latham (Fitch H.S./Mystic, Conn.).

But, the Lightning answered by going on a 14-4 run over the next three minutes to take a commanding 23-14 advantage on a fast break lay-up by Richardson.
Latham connected on a jumper with 7:57 remaining to put a brief end to the Lightning's run, but Goldey-Beacom countered by scoring the final 13 points of the first half, including eight points from senior forward Irene Hudson (Corcoran H.S./Syracuse, N.Y.) to lead by 36-16 at the intermission.

After a pair of Richardson lay-ups opened the second half for the Lightning, the Eagles narrowed the margin to 44-27 by going on an 11-4 spurt, including eight points from Latham. But, senior forward Akilah Sewell (Baltimore City College H.S./Baltimore, Md.) scored back-to-back jumpers to give Goldey-Beacom a 48-27 lead with 10:59 remaining.

The Eagles trimmed the deficit to 56-40 by scoring 12 of the next 21 points, but the Lightning sealed the victory by making seven of eight free throws in the final minute.

In leading the Lightning to the victory, Richardson made 7 of 14 shots from the floor and 8 of 12 free throw attempts. Meanwhile, Hudson added 11 points with four rebounds while Sewell came off the bench to score 10 points with six rebounds and two blocked shots.

Latham, who earned second team All-CACC honors, led the Eagles in a losing effort with 20 points, marking her 13th consecutive double-digit scoring effort. She made 7 of 15 shots from the floor, including a 5-for-7 performance from three-point range. Graduate student forward Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed her ninth “double double” of the season by scoring 11 points with 12 rebounds.

The Lightning, who set a school record by posting their 20th win of the season, will look to end Caldwell's 14-game win streak when the teams face each other on Friday afternoon. Goldey-Beacom earned a 55-53 victory over the Cougars on Dec. 8 at the Jones Center.
