WILMINGTON, Del. – After playing its first seven games on the road, the Goldey-Beacom College women's basketball team used a strong offensive performance from its starters as the Lightning (5-3, 2-1) earned their fourth win in the last five games with a 71-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Concordia College (0-11, 0-4) at the Joseph West Jones College Center on Saturday afternoon.

Junior guard Lillian Chukwueze (Cherry Hill West H.S./Cherry Hill, N.J.) led the Lightning to the victory by posting a team-high 17 points with a game-high 12 rebounds, marking her second "double double" of the season.

After the Clippers took an early 4-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game, the Lightning used a 15-0 run over the next four minutes to take a commanding 15-4 advantage. Senior forward Briana Richmond-Peters (Brimm Medical Arts H.S./Camden, N.J.) scored seven points during the spurt.

But, the Clippers answered by scoring 12 of the next 14 points to trim the margin to 17-16 on a three-point field goal by freshman guard Jessica Rosalbo (Curtis H.S./Staten Island, N.J.) with 9:42 remaining in the opening stanza.

The Lightning extended the advantage to 23-18 by scoring six of the next eight points, but the Clippers rallied to claim a 25-24 edge on a Rosalbo lay-up with 3:41 left in the first half.

After Chukwueze reclaimed a one-point margin for the Lightning, Rosalbo ignited a quick five-point run to give Concordia a 30-26 advantage with 2:09 remaining. However, the Lightning scored six of the final seven points in the period to retake a one-point lead into the intermission.

The Clippers scored four points in the opening two minutes of the second half to take a 35-32 lead with 18:42 remaining on a jumper by junior forward Alyssa Dawson (Immaculate Heart Academy/Westwood, N.J.).

But, the Lightning answered by scoring the next nine points, including five from Chukwueze, to regain the advantage at 40-35 with 15:14 remaining.

From there, the Lightning never trailed and led by as many as 20 points with 10 seconds remaining on a pair of free throws from junior forward Chelsea Grover (Seneca H.S./Southampton, N.J.).

One of four Goldey-Beacom starters to score in double figures, Chukwueze made 6 of 14 shots from the floor, including a 2-for-5 effort from three-point range, while converting three of five free throws. Meanwhile, Richmond-Peters added 16 points with two blocks and eight rebounds while junior guard Taylor Leonard (John A. Coleman Catholic H.S./Lake Katrine, N.Y.) tallied 12 points with five rebounds and two steals.

Grover scored 11 points, including a 7-for-8 performance from the foul line, while grabbing seven rebounds with two blocked shots.

Dawson led Concordia in a losing effort with a game-high 24 points, making 11 of 20 field goal attempts. She also added nine rebounds for the Clippers, who were outrebounded by a 53-38 margin.

Rosalbo contributed 14 points with two assists for Concordia while junior forward Mariah Berry (Southington H.S./Southington, Conn.) came off the bench to score nine points.

The Lightning will return home on Tuesday, Dec. 10 to host Adelphi University in a non-conference game at the Jones Center at 6 p.m. Meanwhile, Concordia will be idle until Dec. 18 when the Clippers travel to Caldwell College for a 6 p.m. CACC North Division contest.
