WILMINGTON, Del. – It had been exactly 365 days since the Goldey-Beacom College women's soccer team had earned a 3-0 victory over Lincoln University. After a streak of 11 straight losses, the Lightning (1-6-0) ended the drought by scoring five goals in the first half against the Lions on Thursday en route to a 5-2 non-conference victory at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field.

Led by two goals from senior midfielder Michelle Foster (Overbrook H.S./West Berlin, N.J.), the Lightning exploded for a season-high five goals. It was their highest single-game output since an 8-0 win over Lincoln on Oct. 20, 2011.

The Lions took an early 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when freshman midfielder Tamara Greene (Piscataway H.S./Piscataway, N.J.) took a pass from junior defender Cierra Bean (New Hampton H.S./Penacook, N.H.) and scored the first goal of her college career with a 15-yard shot.

But, the Lightning answered with five consecutive goals to take a commanding 5-1 advantage. Foster tied the game at 1-1 in the 12th minute when she scored on a breakaway after taking a long pass from freshman defender Becca Cordo (Hightstown H.S./Roosevelt, N.J.).

With 19:53 remaining in the first half, junior forward Alexandra Smith (Pennsville Memorial H.S./Pennsville, N.J.) gave Goldey-Beacom a 2-1 edge when she scored off an assist from freshman Bailey Doyle (Southern Regional H.S./Manahawkin, N.J.) and tallied her second goal of the season.

Just over three minutes later, Foster extended the advantage to 3-1 when she scored on a header shot after a corner kick by Doyle.

In the 40th minute, freshman forward Tatiana Marshall (Caesar Rodney H.S./Camden, Del.) upped the Lightning lead to 4-1 when she took an outlet pass from Smith and tallied the first goal of her college career on a breakaway.

Just 22 seconds later, sophomore Sheridan Vincent-Gobble (Oak Ridge H.S./Conroe, Texas) scored her first goal of the season after a pair of passes from Smith and freshman Lauren Devault (Woodstown H.S./Woodstown, N.J.), giving Goldey-Beacom a 5-1 advantage at the intermission.

With 34 seconds remaining in the second half, the Lions trimmed the deficit to 5-2 when freshman midfielder Alanna Van Ness (Piscataway H.S./Piscataway, N.J.) scored off a pass from junior midfielder Tara O'Brien (Twickenham, U.K.).

While Foster led the Lightning with the first two goals of her college career, Smith contributed a goal with two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Cindell Aguirre (Coronado H.S./El Paso, Texas) made five saves for the Lightning, who outshot Lincoln by an 18-12 margin, including a 14-2 edge in the first half.

Freshman goalkeeper Chloe Grice (Lancashire, U.K.) posted five saves for the Lions, who lost for the second time in their last five matches.

The Lightning will finish their four-match homestand on Saturday, Oct. 5 when they host Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at 12 p.m.
