PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Senior guard
Devonne Richardson (Milford Mill Academy/Baltimore, Md.) and senior forward
Irene Hudson (Corcoran H.S./Syracuse, N.Y.) each recorded a “double double” to lead Goldey-Beacom College (12-8, 9-2) to its fourth win in the last five games, a 76-52 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Philadelphia University (9-7, 5-4) at the Rams' Gallagher Center on Wednesday evening.
Hudson, who posted her third straight “double double,” tallied 17 points and added 10 rebounds while Richardson added 10 points with 10 rebounds and nine assists. In addition, she broke the school record for career rebounds in the first half and now has 1,035 rebounds in her career.
Led by eight points from Hudson, the Lightning sprinted to a 19-5 lead in the opening eight minutes of the first half. In addition, senior guard
Jacinda Jones (Concord H.S./Claymont, Del.) added six points on a pair of three-point field goals.
The Rams closed to within 21-10 by scoring five of the next seven points before the Lightning used a 15-2 run to extend their advantage to 36-12 with 5:56 remaining on a Richardson lay-up.
After the Rams narrowed the gap to 36-17 with five consecutive points, the Lightning used a 6-2 spurt to increase their cushion to 42-19 with 1:32 remaining.
But, the Rams used an 8-0 run to end the first half and cut the margin to 42-27.
Led by five points from sophomore guard
Monica Schacker (Germantown Academy/Doylestown, Pa.), the Rams narrowed their deficit to 48-35 in the opening four minutes of the second half. But, the Lightning answered by scoring 17 of the next 22 points, upping their advantage to 65-40 with 6:38 left on a pair of free throws by Richardson.
From there, the Lightning never trailed by fewer than 23 points en route to defeating the Rams for the sixth time in the last seven meetings.
While Richardson and Hudson each posted a “double double” in the victory for the Lightning, Jones scored a game-high 21 points with four assists. She made 7 of 15 shots from the floor, including a 7-for-11 performance from three-point range.
Meanwhile, senior forward
Akilah Sewell (Baltimore City College H.S./Baltimore, Md.) came off the bench to contribute 10 points with five rebounds and two blocked shots.
Schacker came off the bench to lead the Rams with a team-high 18 points, marking her third straight game with 10 or more points. She made 7 of 16 field goal attempts, including 4 of 11 tries from beyond the arc.

Kristen Blye (Downingtown East H.S./Chester Springs, Pa.) scored 12 points with a team-high nine rebounds.
The Lightning will return to the Joseph West Jones College Center on Saturday afternoon to host Post University in a CACC match-up at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the Rams will continue their four-game homestand against Caldwell on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Game Notes: The Lightning improved to 5-0 this season when scoring 70 or more points … Goldey-Beacom made a season-high eight three-point field goals against the Rams … The Lightning also recorded a season-high 22 assists on Wednesday evening … The Lightning shot 46.8 per cent from the field, marking their second-best field goal percentage this year … Goldey-Beacom shot 47.1 per cent against Wilmington University on Jan. 8 … Richardson narrowly missed recording a “triple double” after tying a season high with nine assists … Jones posted 20 or more points for the 21st time in her career, including her third 20-point game this year … With her seven three-point field goals, Jones tied the school record for career three-point field goals … She now has 174 made three-point field goals, matching the school record set by
