PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
- Freshman forward Angela Ferro (Shelton H.S./Shelton, Conn.) scored a goal and added an assist to lead Philadelphia University (1-2-0, 1-0-0) to its first win of the season, a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (0-2-0, 0-1-0) at the Rams' Ravenhill Field on Thursday afternoon.

After being held without a goal in each of their first two games, the Rams exploded for three goals against the Lightning while taking 38 shots.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute when sophomore Carla Chmielewski (Paul VI H.S./Glassboro, N.J.) scored on a 10-yard shot after receiving a pass from Ferro.

Just over six minutes later, Ferro tallied the first goal of her college career when she upped the Rams' advantage to 2-0 with a shot into the lower left corner off an assist from senior midfielder Melissa Copeland (East Islip H.S./Islip Terrace, N.Y.).

In the 55th minute, senior defender Chelsea Riedell (Highland H.S./Gilbert, Ariz.) added an insurance marker when she headed in a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Cristina Nasti (Montclair Kimberley Academy/Verona, N.J.).

While Ferro led the Rams offensively, senior Kelli Kowalewski (Seneca H.S./Shamong, N.J.) and freshman Courtney Shaw (Villa Joseph Marie H.S./Langhorne, Pa.) combined to earn the shutout. Kowalewski did not record a save in 66 minutes while Shaw made two saves in the final 24 minutes.

Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Vetrano (Shore Regional H.S./Ocean, N.J.) made six saves in a losing effort for the Lightning, who were outshot by a 38-2 margin. Senior forward Kelly Williams (Copiague H.S./Copiague, N.Y.) had both of the Lightning's shot attempts in the second half.

The Lightning will try to earn their first win of the season on Saturday morning when they travel to Bloomfield College for an 11 a.m. match against the Deacons.
