DOVER, Del. – Freshman forward Taylor Addison (Cardinal Spellman H.S./Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Kaitlyn Schech (Harford Tech H.S./Abingdon, Md.) each scored a goal as Delaware State University (1-7-1) earned its first win of the season, a 2-0 non-conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (1-8-0) at the Hornets' Alumni Stadium on Thursday evening.

The win snapped the Hornets' 10-match winless streak, dating back to last season. It is the Hornets' first win since a 2-1 victory over Utah Valley on Oct. 20, 2011.

Addison gave the Hornets a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute when she scored her second goal of the season after collecting a loose ball inside the penalty area.

With nine minutes left, Schech upped the Delaware State advantage to 2-0 when she scored her first goal of the season off a corner kick from junior defender Darcy Pelz-Butler (Montgomery Blair H.S./Silver Spring, Md.).

Led by freshman goalkeeper Mekayla McAdoo (Concord H.S./New Castle, Del.), the Hornet defense held Goldey-Beacom to just two shots over the final nine minutes to earn the victory.

McAdoo, who earned the first shutout of her college career, made one save as Delaware State outshot the Lightning by an 18-5 margin. The Hornets also had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Vetrano (Shore Regional H.S./Ocean, N.J.) posted eight saves in a losing effort for the Lightning.

The Lightning will return to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon when they host Concordia College at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the Hornets will travel to NJIT next Thursday evening.
