ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - Junior forward Melissa Messina (Pascack Valley H.S./Hillsdale, N.J.) scored a goal and added an assist as Dominican College (3-4-0, 2-2-0) overcame a one-goal halftime deficit to edge Goldey-Beacom College (0-7-0, 0-6-0) by a 2-1 margin at the DC Athletic Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Chargers have now won three of their last four games after opening the season with a three-game losing streak.

Freshman forward Tiffany Kelly (Parsippany H.S./Parsippany, N.J.) gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute with the first goal of her college career before the Chargers scored twice in the second half en route to the victory.

But, the Chargers answered with two goals in the second half to take a 2-1 advantage they did not relinquish. In the 64th minute, Messina tallied her second goal of the season when she scored off a pass from junior forward Olivia Antonopoulos (Baldwin Senior H.S./Baldwin, N.Y.).

With 14:02 remaining, the Chargers claimed a 2-1 edge when junior midfielder Danielle Klecha (Monroe Township H.S./Jamesburg, N.J.) converted a pass from Messina with a 10-yard shot for her first goal of the season.

While Messina led the Chargers to the victory, junior goalkeeper Vanessa Iozzi (Mendham H.S./Chester, N.J.) made four saves as Dominican limited the Lightning to nine shots.

Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Vetrano (Shore Regional H.S./Ocean, N.J.) tallied six saves in a losing effort for the Lightning.

The Lightning will return home on Tuesday afternoon to face Washington Adventist University at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex at 4 p.m.
