NEW CASTLE, Del. – Junior forward Carly DiGiovanni (Ocean City H.S./Seaville, N.J.) scored two goals and added an assist to lead Chestnut Hill College (3-4-0, 3-0-0) to its third straight win, a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (0-6-0, 0-5-0) at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

The Griffins' leading scorer with seven goals and an assist, DiGiovanni has scored five of her goals in the last two games. Prior to her two-goal effort against Goldey-Beacom, she recorded the first “hat trick” of her career with a three-goal performance against Concordia on Saturday.

DiGiovanni gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when she scored on a header shot after receiving a pass from junior Stephanie Litty (Cherokee H.S./Marlton, N.J.) from the right side.

With 1:53 remaining in the first half, Chestnut Hill upped the advantage to 2-0 when sophomore forward Alexis LeDonne (Williamstown H.S./Williamstown, N.J.) tallied her first goal of the season when she converted a flick pass from DiGiovanni that came after a throw-in from senior defender Shannon Catts (Our Lady of Mercy Academy/Elmer, N.J.).

The Griffins held onto the two-goal lead until the 75th minute when Goldey-Beacom took advantage of an own goal after a pass from sophomore forward Alexandra Smith (Pennsville Memorial H.S./Pennsville, N.J.) into the penalty area was deflected by a Chestnut Hill defender into the goal.

But, DiGiovanni regained the two-goal edge for Chestnut Hill with 7:43 remaining when she scored on a rebound of a shot by junior Kaelyn Pizarro (Eastern Regional H.S./Berlin, N.J.) that hit the far post.

While DiGiovanni led the Griffins to the victory, sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Pauls (Union Catholic Regional H.S./South Plainfield, N.J.) made five saves in her first start of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Vetrano (Shore Regional H.S./Ocean, N.J.) made four saves in a losing effort for the Lightning, who outshot the Griffins by a 16-13 margin and held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lightning, who finished a three-game homestand against the Griffins on Wednesday, will visit Dominican in a CACC match-up on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Griffins continue their three-match road trip on Saturday at Caldwell.
