WILMINGTON, Del. - Looking to earn their first CACC victory of the season, the Lightning men's and women's soccer teams will host Felician College on Saturday afternoon in their first doubleheader of the season at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex. It will be the first of four home doubleheaders for the Lightning this season.
The women's team will take on the Golden Falcons in the first game at 1 p.m. while the men's team will play Felician at approximately 3 p.m.
Now 0-4-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the CACC, the Lightning women's team dropped a 4-0 decision against Wilmington University on Tuesday afternoon at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex. Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Vetrano made a season-high 10 saves in the loss as the Lightning suffered its third straight shutout loss.
Meanwhile, the Lightning men's team dropped to 1-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the CACC after suffering a 4-0 loss against the Wildcats on Wedneday afternoon at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex. Senior goalkeeper Ignacio Farias tallied a season-high 14 saves for the Lightning, who were held to just eight shots in the loss.
Off to a 2-1-1 start, including a 1-0-1 mark in the CACC, the Felician men's soccer team is unbeaten in its last three matches after earning a 1-1 tie against Post on Wednesday afternoon. During the three-game unbeaten streak, the Golden Falcons have allowed just one goal while scoring three times. Both of their wins this year have come by a 1-0 margin.
Sophomore defender Keleena Onyeaka is the Golden Falcons' leading scorer with two goals while junior forward Lau SanFilippo has contributed a goal with an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Tsouhnikas has started three of the Golden Falcons' four games this season, posting a 1.24 goals against average while stopping 73.3 per cent of the shots he has faced. He had a season-high six saves in the 1-1 draw against Post.
Currently 2-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the CACC, the Golden Falcon women's team dropped a tough 1-0 double overtime loss against Dowling on Thursday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. It marked the Golden Falcons' third straight loss after opening the season with back-to-back wins. During the three-game losing streak, Felician has been outscored by a 6-2 margin.
Junior forward Alysia Arcona is the Golden Falcons' leading scorer with five goals and an assist while freshman midfielder Macki Groves has contributed two goals. Senior goalkeeper Allie Couzo has started three games for the Golden Falcons this year and has a 1.61 goals against average while posting an .824 save percentage.
After Saturday's doubleheader, the Lightning men's soccer team will travel to Chestnut Hill on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. CACC match-up against the Griffins. Meanwhile, the Lightning women's team finishes its three-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon by hosting Chestnut Hill at 3 p.m. at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex.
